John C. Ryan Jr. of Greensburg (tribunereview)
John Collins Ryan Jr., 72, of Greensburg, died of a cardiac arrest on
Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Monroeville. John was born Dec. 11, 1939, in St.
Paul, Minn., to John Collins and Margaret Quinlan Ryan. He graduated from
Cretin High School in St. Paul. He received his bachelor's degree from
Marquette University in 1962, his MBA from Florida State University in 1968,
and his Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of
Pittsburgh in 1992. From 1963 to 1969, he worked on Project Apollo -- first
for McDonnell Douglas on the development and testing of the Saturn IV-B
booster rocket in Los Angeles and Sacramento, Calif., and then for Grumman
Aircraft on the assembly and multiple launches of the Lunar Excursion Module
at Kennedy Space Center, in Cape Canaveral, Fla. From 1969 to 1985, he worked
for Westinghouse Nuclear Energy Systems in Monroeville. He then joined the
faculty of the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology at
Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Professor Ryan took great joy in his work
with students and, in addition to publishing scholarly articles, received
multiple teaching awards before retiring in 2004. He was a member of Latrobe
